For the final Kaggle Hackathon project of the 5 Days Google Intensive AI Course, I decided to build something that would have saved me countless sleepless nights as a student—an AI-powered Study Assistant that turns any textbook into an interactive learning companion.
What Is the 3Ts AI Study Assistant?
Think of it as your personal tutor that never sleeps, never gets tired, and has infinite patience for your questions.
The 3Ts AI Study Assistant is a free tool that uses cutting-edge AI technology—specifically RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), OCR, and Large Language Models—to transform how you study. Upload any PDF or even photos of textbook pages, and instantly get:
- Quick Summaries — Condense chapters into digestible notes
- Practice Quizzes — Auto-generated MCQs and questions to test yourself
- Clear Explanations — Break down complex topics into simple language
- Interactive Q&A — Ask anything about your material and get instant answers
- Study History — Pick up right where you left off with saved chat records
- OCR Support — Works with PDFs, scanned pages, and phone photos of textbooks

Why I Built This?
The idea came from a simple question during the Kaggle Hackathon: Can AI become a truly accessible study tool for every student—not just those who can afford expensive tutoring?
As someone who’s spent countless hours making notes, re-reading chapters, and scrambling to prepare for exams, I wanted to create something that would:
- Cut study time in half without sacrificing understanding
- Make revision actually enjoyable (or at least less painful)
- Support students who learn from photocopied books or scanned materials
- Provide instant help when you’re stuck—no waiting for school or Tuition Academy hours
- Make self-study feel less lonely and more interactive
When I tested the first version, the results exceeded my expectations. Students could understand difficult concepts faster, retain information better through quizzes, and actually enjoy the learning process.

Upload a 50-page chapter, get a concise summary in seconds. Perfect for quick revision before exams or when you’re short on time. You can even request bullet-point format for easier understanding.

Auto-Generated Quizzes
The AI creates practice questions, MCQs, based on your material. Test your understanding and identify weak areas instantly.
Use case: Self-testing after studying each chapter to ensure retention.
Step-by-Step Explanations

Persistent Chat History 📜
All your study sessions are saved automatically. Jump back into your learning whenever you want without losing context. Just load the chat from previous day.
Use case: Continuing yesterday’s study session right where you left off.
Smart OCR Technology
This is a game-changer for students without digital textbooks.
Upload:
- Scanned PDF pages
- Phone photos of textbook pages
- Printed notes
- Screenshots of study materials
The AI extracts the text accurately and makes it searchable and interactive.
Use case: Converting your borrowed library book into an interactive study guide.
Record Management and Storage Control
The built-in record management system lets you clear all uploaded books and indexes when you need freeing up storage for your next subject study. (This 1st version handles only one book at a time.)
Use case: Finished studying Physics? Clear the storage and upload your Biology textbook for tomorrow’s exam.
Save The Processed Books/Images as Chunks
Once uploaded PDFs, Images of books and processed by OCR can be saved as ‘chunks…zip’ for future use. These chunks then can be directly uploaded for study without long waiting for OCR process.
Use case: Have big books, just OCR process once? upload these chunks faster without OCR, enjoy studying.
How It Works (The Simple Version)
You don’t need to understand the technical details to use it, but here’s what happens behind the scenes:
- Upload Your Files → PDF or images of your study material or already process ‘Saved Chunks’.
- AI Processes Content → OCR extracts text from images, AI chunks and indexes the content
- Smart Search Activated → Your content is converted into searchable embeddings
- Choose Your Action → Summarize, quiz, explain, or ask questions
- AI Generates Answers → RAG technology finds relevant information and generates helpful responses
- Context Maintained → Chat memory keeps track of your conversation for seamless studying

Something you should take care of!
To be transparent, here are some current limitations:
- Works best with well-formatted text (very blurry images may have OCR errors)
- Requires internet connection
- Processing large files (100+ pages) may take a moment
- AI responses are based on your uploaded content—it won’t browse the internet for additional information.It means the Study Assistant will stay abide by the book.
